IF YOU ARE MOVING TO CANADA

HOUSEHOLD GOODS

  1. Must be used (not newly purchased) and should not be in their original containers.
  2. You and your driver must both be present when the shipment is cleared at the destination customs office.

VEHICLES

  1. Your vehicle must meet the Transport Canada's mandatory standards. There may be duties, fees and taxes levied on imported vehicles.

FIREARMS

  1. Undeclared handguns cannot be imported into Canada. Canadian or U.S. Customs will seize any undeclared weapon.
  2. All weapons being shipped must appear on the Atlas Van Lines inventory with serial numbers. The shipper must have proof of ownership of allowed weapons and proof that the weapon was registered in the U.S.

PLANTS, ANIMAL SKINS AND TROPHIES

ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO

  1. There are limits on the amounts you may bring into Canada. Amounts that exceed the limits will be assessed duties and taxes.

PETS

  1. To take dogs and cats into Canada, you need a certificate from a veterinarian stating that your animal is in good health and has been vaccinated against rabies.

IF YOU ARE MOVING FROM CANADA

GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. Required permits can take in excess of 90 days. Please plan ahead.
  2. All required paperwork needs to be completed and given to your Atlas driver before your goods are loaded.
  3. For Immigration inquiries, please call 910 395-6328.

HOUSEHOLD GOODS

  1. You must complete U.S. customs form 3299 (Declaration for Free Entry of Unaccompanied Articles).
  2. You are required to cross the border prior to your goods reaching the U.S.
  3. For U.S. Customs inquiries, please call 202 927-6724.

VEHICLES

  1. Your vehicle requires a Certificate of Clearance to show that it meets the National Highway Traffic Safety and Environmental Protection Agency standards.
  2. To apply for your Certificate of Clearance, you must:
    1. Contact the U.S. Manufacturer and give the year, make, model and VIN details. Request a letter advising if your vehicle meets U.S. standards.
    2. Once you have received the letter stating that your vehicle does meet U.S. standards, submit that letter along with a letter requesting a Certificate of Clearance from the NHTS. Be specific regarding your destination as state standards may vary.
    3. Give the Atlas driver a copy of the ownership registration, certificate of insurance, Certificate of Clearance and the manufacturer's letter at the time of loading.

PETS

  1. Dogs must have proof of rabies vaccination within the past 30 days. Cats need to be healthy. A letter from your veterinarian is advisable.
  2. To import other animals, contact the U.S. Consulate.
